Sylvia Brown


BIO

Cellist, Sylvia Brown, studies under the direction of Ho Anthony Ahn and is a junior at Shawnee Mission South High School in Overland Park Kansas.  She performs in a quartet with coaching by members Opus 76 string quartet, with the Youth Symphony of Kansas City’s Symphonic Orchestra under the direction of Steven D. Davis, and this year is also performing with the Kansas City Young Chamber Musicians in a Flute trio under the tutelage of Nicholas Dold of William Jewell College. She received 1st place in the 2023 KMMEA All-State Orchestra cello auditions.  In 2022 she performed with the Interlochen World Youth Symphony Orchestra, performed Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations with the Overland Park Civic Orchestra, received 3rd place in the Northland Symphony Orchestra’s youth concerto competition, and had a master class with Zlatomir Fung performing Dvorak’s cello concerto.  She also performs in her school chamber and symphonic orchestras, participates in community performance events and teaches cello to elementary school students.
